Personal profile

Dr Frank Schafer qualified in 1993 from Kiel University, Germany and completed his training in general medicine in Liverpool. Subsequently, he trained in general cardiology and the sub-specialty of non-invasive cardiac imaging in Sydney, Australia and North West London. In 2010, Dr Schafer was appointed as consultant cardiologist to work at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust.

He was made the clinical lead of cardiac imaging and has successfully developed one of the busiest stress echocardiography services in the country. He mentors and supervises cardiac physiologists and cardiology registrars and holds a position as an official grader in the British and the European Society of Echocardiography.

Dr Schafer is accredited in echocardiography, cardiac CT and nuclear cardiac imaging and his special interests are coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease (diseases of the heart valves), cardiomyopathies (diseases of the heart muscle) and infective endocarditis (infections of the heart valves).
