Mr Ghassan Al-Yassari has accumulated vast experience in the orthopaedic field since he graduated in the top 10% from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, 1988. He moved on to first work for the NHS in Glasgow in 1994 where he was awarded an FRCS from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for completion of surgical training. He has spent all 33 years of his career working towards or as an orthopaedic surgeon leaving countless patients and colleagues with nothing but positive remarks about his work.
This surgeon moved on to acquire a sub specialist interest in upper limb surgery and has received excellent fellowship level training in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand surgery from King’s College Hospital, London. Since becoming a fully qualified surgeon, Mr Al-Yassari has conducted countless successful surgeries ranging from joint stabilisation to complex fractures at the elbow that imperatively require precise alignment. Additionally to being a competent and well-versed surgeon, his surgical forte is undoubtedly upper limb arthroscopic and fracture surgery at which he excels.
His eagerness and passion in the medical field drove him to publish multiple world class leading research papers which can be found listed on his CV. One publication that truly depicts the type of doctor Mr Al-Yassari prides himself to be is the publication wherein proposed an alternative method of surgery for shoulder instability; an idea that only came to him by a genuine passion and immense knowledge of his chosen field, upper limb orthopaedics.
In furthering his contribution to the progression of the medical community, Mr Al-Yassari spent a significant period of his career (2014 – 2019) developing the orthopaedic training programme in the Sultanate of Oman. His work in the Sultanate pioneered the way for advancements in the level of skill and knowledge possessed by future doctors and the quality of the national medical service. He attended many conferences as an invited speaker including the first ever shoulder and knee conference hosted in Oman.
Now a father of four, he enjoys travelling, sightseeing and action films and as a consultant he is responsible for the supervision and mentorship of the specialist trainee doctors at the Northwick Park Hospital orthopaedics department.
