Dr Rai undertook his medical training at the University of Wales College of Medicine between 1991 and 1997. Once qualified he moved to the home counties and did his preregistration jobs in Ascot and High Wycombe.
In 1998, Dr Rai started his GP training at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. In 2001, once he had completed his GP training, he worked as an associate GP for two years in Chelsea. He took on a GP principal role in High Wycombe for one year which allowed him to train and work as a Forensic Medical Examiner.
In 2004, Dr Rai became a Principal in a practice in Borehamwood, and has remained there since. In the past few years he has trained as a GP with a specialist interest in Cardiology, and has lead roles in Cardiology for the locality in which he works.
In the past two years he has also taken on the role of teaching UCL Royal Free medical school students Cardiology on Tuesdays. Some of his other interests include personal injury work and cosmetic treatments (non-surgical).
