Dr Mehta graduated from Guys and St Thomas Hospitals Medical School in London with Honours and Distinction in Medicine. He completed his basic training with a Professorial House Officer position at Guys Hospital before undertaking specialist medical training in London leading to Membership of the Royal College of Physicians.  


Dr Mehta trained in Radiology at St George's Hospital London, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Atkinson Morley’s Hospital.  He also trained at Guildford, Epsom, St Helier and Frimley Park District General Hospitals.

In 2001 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists. He then completed a two year Neuroradiology Fellowship based at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery and Great Ormond Street Hospital - with further specialist training at Atkinson Morley’s, The Royal London & King’s College Hospital Neuroscience Units.


Dr Mehta has a specialist interest in diagnostic spinal imaging and treatment.  He specialises in vertebroplasty, a NICE approved minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of painful spinal fractures secondary to osteoporosis, malignant spinal disease and trauma.  This involves the injection of medical grade 'cement' into the vertebral bodies of the spine under X-ray guidance. He has successfully treated in excess of 200 patients. 

Since his appointment at The University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire in 2005 Dr Mehta has introduced a number of state of the art imaging techniques including functional MRI for brain mapping prior to brain surgery, spectroscopy and perfusion imaging. His routine clinical practice involves diagnostic imaging assessment of patients with chronic epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and stroke. He has successfully introduced the acute stroke imaging pathway as part of the regional acute Stroke Service for Warwickshire and was audit lead for radiology ensuring the maintenance of high standards of patient clinical care.

Dr Mehta was Clinical Governance & Audit Lead in Radiology at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust 2011- 2014.

Dr Mehta was Clinical Director of Radiology at UHCW from 2014-2016.

Dr Mehta has a sub-speciality interest in paediatric neuroradiology and regularly attends the neuroscience meetings at Birmingham Children's Hospital.  He has introduced a fetal MRI service to University Hospitals Coventry. This is a relatively new technique used to assess the brain of a developing baby before birth improving ante-natal management in pregnancy.

Dr Mehta teaches Radiology trainees in preparation for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologist Examinations and regularly lectures medical students at Warwick Medical School.

Dr Mehta has active research interests in neuroradiology including functional MRI of the brain, and has previously presented at neuroradiological conferences in the UK, Europe and North America. His most recent publication in 2011 was an invited book chapter on neonatal imaging of the CNS in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
