Mr Chakrabarti qualified from Nottingham University Medical School. He went on to train in surgery and then orthopaedics at Edinburgh and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. He completed a Hand Fellowship at Nottingham and Derby before being appointed as a Consultant in Rotherham.

His practice is exclusively hand and wrist surgery. He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed orthopaedic and hand surgery journals. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery (European volume). He also reviews papers for the British Bone and Joint Journal.

He is an examiner in Orthopaedics for the Intercollegiate Board of the Royal College of Surgeons and examines for the British Diploma in Hand Surgery, as well as the Joint Surgical Fellowship in Orthopaedics (RCSEd) in Hong Kong.

He teaches on a number of orthopaedic and hand and wrist surgery courses nationally and has presented his work at scientific meetings in the UK and abroad.
