Mr Paniker completed his undergraduate medical training from Manipal University in India in 2000. He completed 18 months of post graduate training in Orthopaedics in India before moving to UK and continuing his Orthopaedic training. He did his initial training in Birmingham, Manchester and Wales before completing his Specialist Orthopaedic Training from Liverpool.
He did his specialist Hand fellowships and training in Hand centres in Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester. He has also visited and trained at many international Hand centres gaining specialist expertise in specific aspects of hand surgery. His practice covers all aspects of Hand and Wrist conditions and soft tissue conditions around the elbow like Tennis and Golfers elbow. He has specialist interest and experience in arthroscopic procedures of the wrist and thumb base joint and joint replacement procedures of the wrist joint, thumb base joint and all joints of the fingers. He is one of a handful of surgeons who perform joint replacement surgery of the distal interphalangeal joint(Joint near the nail).
He is actively involved in teaching Sheffield University medical students and junior doctors through formalised lectures and informal clinical training. He mentors junior doctors undertaking Masters programmes. He is also actively involved in teaching and training Yorkshire region Orthopaedic trainees. He undertakes the Medical Student exams for Sheffield University students. Mr Paniker is faculty member, teaching on the Derby Hand Trauma Course.
At his NHS hospital Mr Paniker is the clinical lead for Audit and Research for Orthopaedics. In this role he reviews all the latest national and international guidance and monitors the practice at this unit based on these standards, directly improving patient care. Mr Paniker is also an Appraiser for doctors of all grades and specialties helping them prepare for their mandatory revalidation with the General Medical Council(GMC).
He is actively involved in research and acts as the principal investigator on multi centre research studies and chief investigator in local research studies. He has presented papers at several international and national meetings and published papers in his speciality.
Outside his work he enjoys running and cycling. He has completed marathons including the London marathon and regularly takes part in cycling challenges.
