Dr Jayne Eaden is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and is the Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at the University Hospitals of Coventry & Warwickshire having been appointed in May 2002. She graduated from Leicester Medical School in 1992 with merit awards in pathology and medicine. She trained in medicine and gastroenterology on the East of England registrar rotation during which time she developed research interests in inflammatory bowel disease and patient information. Dr Eaden also spent a sabbatical year in Adelaide, Australia from 2000 to 2001.
During her two years as a research fellow, she conceived, developed and conducted a number of research projects with a specialist interest in the development of colorectal cancer in patients with ulcerative colitis. As a consequence she was awarded a MD with distinction in 2000.
She is co-author of the national screening guidelines for CRC surveillance in patients with IBD for the British Society of Gastroenterology and is the secretary of the British Society of Gastroenterology Inflammatory Bowel Disease Section Committee. In addition to producing original refereed papers and review articles she has also produced educational videos.
Dr Eaden examines for the Royal College of Physicians and In November 2013 she became the Secretary for the whole of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
Her research interests are principally concerned with colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. As a result of her research she co-authored the British Society of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association guidelines for cancer surveillance in IBD patients.
