Jill was born and raised in the North West and she always wanted to practice medicine in the region following studying at both St Andrews and Manchester Universities where she achieved her science and medical degrees. It was during her training in the Manchester region that she developed a keen interest and dedication to knee surgery in particular. These skills were further developed during her orthopaedic training in the Mersey Deanery and refined to a super specialist level during her fellowship training in the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Wrightington Hospital.

Jill has been a substantive NHS Consultant with a practice in sports and reconstructive knee surgery and knee trauma since 2015 in Salford Royal Hospital, where she was born. Jill was very proactive in developing an acute knee service for those patients with recent knee pain, injuries and symptoms. She is devoted to teaching and training having established a knee fellowship and regularly teaching medical students, junior doctors and allied health care professionals. In particular she mentors advanced practitioners and organises quality improvement projects for medical students. Within the knee unit Jill ensures her outcomes are regularly audited to ensure she maintains outstanding patient outcomes and virtually nil complication rates following her surgery.

As an active reservist with the British Military, Jill has been deployed to Afghanistan as an orthopaedic surgeon and currently undertakes a mentoring role for the military in the UK. On her second deployment she investigated the occurrence and impact of sports knee injuries on the military and through her trauma experience she has a unique insight into knee trauma and wear or arthritis within the knee.

Jill is passionate about knee surgery, she is upto date with the latest developments in sport and reconstructive knee surgery. She uses the latest surgical techniques and has knowledge of the very latest biologics in order to be able to offer her patients the most appropriate, scientific options to help her patients maintain their knee function and banish symptoms that impact on daily living activities and sports. Jill co-hosted the Biological Knee Society in Manchester and regularly attends educational knee meetings.

Salford Royal is a busy local hospital and a major trauma centre and through this Jill regularly sees patients with all types of knee injuries and degenerative conditions which she manages working closely with her physiotherapist to rehabilitate the patient optimally. Her extensive knowledge of knee conditions including injuries and degeneration ensure she is best placed to assess and manage any presentation of knee pain and symptoms with timely assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and surgery and with optimal physiotherapy liaison to ensure patients are returned to sports and activities of daily living efficiently and effectively.

Within the field of knee symptoms there are 2 main areas - knee injuries and degeneration. The knee joint can be injured often through sports damaging the soft tissue and cartilage structures in the knee. In addition the knee joint can be symptomatic because it is suffering from wear or arthritis. Jill offers all surgical procedures, management and rehab related to all knee conditions.

In the event of a knee injury Jill has extensive experience of complex knee ligament reconstructions. In particular she takes account of the patients’ activities and designs the surgery to best suit the patient. An example is carefully considering the optimal graft choice in ACL reconstruction surgery. Jill uses the very latest proven industry devices in repairing meniscal tears employing detailed physio rehab protocols to rehabilitate the patient optimally. In the event of damage to the surface of the knee Jill has experience of regenerative procedures and grafting to reconstruct the knee and if diagnosed with a soft tissue knee condition without a surgical target Jill will work alongside physiotherapists using biologics to improve patient outcomes and return to sports.

When the knee joint is failing Jill is passionate in working with patients to maintain the function and longevity of their knee using osteotomy (lower limb realignment surgery) to combat deformities through arthritis. Ultimately if in need of replacement surgery Jill regularly undertakes both half and whole knee replacements with excellent patient reported outcomes.
