Dr Sales qualified in 1982 and first trained in general practice. She then went on to train in psychiatry, including working in Jamaica for a period of six months. Dr Sales basic psychiatry training took place at St George’s Hospital, and her specialist training at Great Ormond Street where she learnt to manage a wide range of mental health disorders in young people. Since becoming a consultant Dr Sales has worked in both Richmond, and over the last 17 years in Bexley and Greenwich.
Her main areas of interest have been childhood depression, anxiety disorders, and also the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and ASD. In addition to using medication she trainined to deliver IPT, one of the recognised interventions for young people presenting with depression.
Dr Sales often works with colleagues from psycholgy and family therapy, and will always give advie about the most up to date evidence-based intervention suited to a young person’s needs. In addition to her clinical work she is also involved in the design and delivery of services within the NHS and continues to work in the NHS clinically.
