Miss Jo Skillman's caring nature and attention to detail help her to provide uncompromisingly high standards of care for her patients. She offers a kind perspective for any patient considering plastic or reconstructive surgery. She is an approachable and capable surgeon. Her main focus is to understand the needs and wishes of her patients and provide them with individually tailored treatment to help them achieve their goals.

She studied medicine at Cambridge University and was awarded a Master of Arts degree. She graduated in clinical studies at Oxford University. She was awarded the Radcliffe Prize: a university prize for all-round excellence.

She undertook broad and varied surgical training in Oxford, London, Durham, Birmingham and Sydney. She undertook specialist fellowships which enhanced her skills in breast reconstruction, microsurgery and aesthetic surgery. She achieved a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons as a Plastic Surgery specialist in 2009. She was one of the few plastic surgeons to be awarded a sought after oncoplastic fellowship, which provided training in modern aspects of breast cancer surgery and new techniques in reconstruction. Finally, a cosmetic fellowship provided focused aesthetic training and experience in all aspects of cosmetic surgery including breast surgery, brow lifts, facelifts, eyelid, ear and genital surgery and body contouring procedures including abdominoplasties, liposuction thigh and arm lifts.

In addition to clinical work, she is also a trainer on the oncoplastic skills course at the Royal College of Surgeons. She has initiated the development of Royal College approved fellowships in trauma and breast surgery, which attract applications from surgeons from all over the world. She has published more than 30 articles on all types of cosmetic and plastic surgery. She has written the surgical section of the National Oncoplastic Guidelines and Royal College of Surgeons Guidelines in Lipomodelling, which set quality standards in the UK.

She is currently an NHS consultant in plastic surgery at a University Hospital specialising in reconstruction for people with injuries and breast and skin cancer. She is chair of the Lymphoedema special interest group at the British Association of Plastic Surgery.
