Dr Jo Hornbuckle studied medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and completed her general medical training in the North-East. She subsequently moved to Australia for 6 years, where she undertook her specialist medical oncology training in Sydney. On returning to the UK, she initially worked as a Consultant in Nottingham before moving to Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield in 2004.
Her areas of expertise are colorectal, upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary.
Dr Hornbuckle sees 200 new patients and supervises around 1400 cycles of chemotherapy per year. She is interested in clinical research and is principal and co- investigator for many NCRI-led clinical trials. She has been the Gastrointestinal site group lead at Weston Park Hospital.
Dr Hornbuckle is very interested in training the next generation of oncologists. She has been the Training Programme Director for Medical Oncology in Sheffield and continues to act as Educational and Clinical Supervisor for senior medical trainees.
