Dr John Thornton qualified from the University of Bristol with Honours (one of four of the 120 in his year). He is a highly experienced physician with interests in all aspects of gastroenterology, including diet and colonic bacteria. He worked for many years on major liver units.
His very high colonoscopy completion rate (currently 95%) is an example of his considerable endoscopic experience. All bowel preparation for this procedure is completed in only five hours on the day of the test.
Dr Thornton’s philosophy is that much can be done to help people with irritable bowel syndrome and chronic abdominal pain. Employing the latest medical treatments, most patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease can be restored to good health and rarely need surgery.
He has written many original articles in leading medical journals, particularly on colonic, liver and biliary diseases. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree for his thesis on gallstones and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP).
