Personal profile

Mr Joseph Varghese is a Consultant General Surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, Bolton and at The Royal Bolton Hospital. He specialises in upper GI and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. He has a particular interest in gastro-oesophageal reflux, gall bladder disease, and hernias. He also specialises in endoscopies, colonoscopies and the endoscopic removal of gall stones from the bile duct (ERCP). He also provides lymph node biopsies, and laparoscopic splenectomies for haematologists.

Mr Varghese completed his basic and higher surgical training in the prestigious North-East of Scotland surgical unit in Aberdeen, under various surgical pioneers gaining invaluable expertise from them. He has a strong interest in research, audit and training.

Following various laparoscopic training programmes in Paris, Mr Varghese undertakes day case laparoscopic procedures.

He has a special interest in Abdominal wall reconstructions and provides a Master class for laparoscopic hiatus hernia repairs.

He is a member of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He is also a member of the British Medical Association, and a member of the Medical Societies of Manchester and Bolton.
