Dr Boullin is trained in all aspects of cardiology. His special interest is in heart rhythm problems, such as atrial fibrillation. This includes drug treatments, various procedures and also advice on preventative measures. He is an expert in performing catheter ablation for arrhythmias and implanting pacemakers, defibrillators (ICDs), loop recorders and biventricular pacemakers.
Dr Boullin has published widely and written a doctorate thesis studying cardiovascular physiology, which he researched at the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease Centre, Southampton University.
Dr Boullin has worked as a consultant since 2011. He set up the ablation service in Norfolk at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. He then led and expanded this service to ensure equitable care in an area traditionally under provided for, that is now in line with any other region in the UK (National Audit data, published 2015). He also worked at The Barts Heart Centre the largest ablation centre in the UK, where he undertook more complex cases.
In 2017 he relocated back to the south coast where he lives with his wife and 3 young daughters. He now runs the dedicated arrhythmia service at the Dorset County Hospital where he is the Arrhythmia Clinical lead, and provides catheter ablation at the regional centre in The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Dr Boullin has a yearly appraisal by an independent medical appraiser and regularly undergoes Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in keeping with the Royal College of Physicians and the General Medical Council standards.
