Personal Profile

Julie Doughty completed her training in General Surgery with a Special Interest in Breast and was subsequently appointed Senior Lecturer, then Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Western Infirmary Glasgow in 1998. She has always been passionate about the management of Breast Cancer and was awarded her MD Thesis from The University of Liverpool on the Regional Management of Locally Advanced and Recurrent Breast Cancer. Although a busy NHS Consultant, she has been a Trustee of the Association of Breast Surgeons since 1998, holding many National positions and is currently Chair of the Education and Training Committee for ABS.

She has published extensively on Breast Cancer Management; during the last 5 years alone publishing in excess of 70 Book Chapters, Papers and Abstracts. Following on from her published research on The Patterns of Recurrence in Breast Cancer, she was invited to speak Internationally (visiting all Continents with the exception of Antarctica), at several Prestigious Centres, including The John Wayne Cancer Institute of California, The Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai and gave The Centenary Lecture for the Royal Danish College of Surgeons. She continues to organise many Post-Graduate Educational Meetings for young and established Breast Surgeons and in recognition has recently been awarded an Honorary Senior Lectureship at The University of East Anglia. She is an elected member of the British Breast Group and hosted their meeting in Glasgow in 2013.

Miss Doughty does not perform cosmetic breast surgery such as breast reduction, breast uplift or breast enlargement/augmentation.
