Personal Profile

Dr Kare Tang trained in the United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physician UK. He graduated from Southampton Medical School in 1991 and subsequently completed his cardiology training on the Cambridge UK rotation. He has worked at the world-renowned heart institutes including Papworth and the Hammersmith Hospital training interventional cardiology. He is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and trained at the Prince of Wales University Hospital in Hong Kong and is dual accredited in cardiology and general medicine.  

Dr Tang is currently practising at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in the UK as an interventional cardiologist as well as a consultant cardiologist in Colchester Hospital and Ipswich General Hospital. His current interest and research include coronary artery disease and coronary physiology. His subspecialty expert skill is treatment of complex coronary disease especially chronic coronary total occlusions. He also participates in the primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention service for treating heart attacks in the Essex Region and is the highest volume operator in the region. He is the go-to guy for complex and last resort for patients deemed not suitable for coronary bypass surgery. Dr Tang is also skilled in pacemaker implantation, cardioversion, and general cardiology particularly cardiology risk screening. He also manages conditions such as heart rhythm disturbance, heart failure and hypertension and hyperlipidamia. He has experience in managing maternity cardiology as well as basic congenital heart disease.

Despite the high volume of complex work, Dr Tang is still enthusiastic in innovative research and has been co-author in many ground-breaking publications (ORBITA study and DEFINE-FLAIR study) which have been published in major journals which have changed the practice in interventional cardiology for better patient care. 

Dr Tang attends regular cardiac Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings to discuss and provide the best care for his patients and keeps abreast of new development and up to date guidelines on all aspect of cardiology care. He has a broad network of peers and multispecialty colleagues and shares learning and has been involved in teaching and proctoring colleagues in the complex coronary stenting skills. His professionalism and affable attitude has meant his bed-side manner is well received and commendable.
