Mrs Katya Tambe is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in oculoplastics and paediatric ophthalmology. She joined the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham as a consultant in 2010.
She was awarded the gold medal for ophthalmology, having stood first in the prestigious all India Diplomate of National Board examinations (DNB) in 1998. Following this she completed her ophthalmic surgical training in the West Midlands Deanery, Birmingham. Her interest in Oculoplastics led her to complete two prestigious oculoplastics fellowships, the first in Leicester in 2007 and the second at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London in 2009. She spent two months in Toronto and Philadelphia to further enhance her oculoplastic expertise in adult and paediatric oculoplastics in 2011.
Her expertise lies in the surgical management of adult patients with eyelid malpositions like ptosis (droopy eye lids), entropion (in-turning eyelids), ectropion (out-turning eyelids), dermatochalasis (excess upper or lower eyelid skin) - requiring blepharoplasty, periocular skin tumours, watery eyes, thyroid related eyelid abnormalities, eyelid and adnexal trauma, patients with socket related problems and general ophthalmic conditions including cataract surgery and glaucoma management.
Her paediatric expertise lies in paediatric ptosis management including levator resections and frontalis brow suspensions with autologus facia lata and synthetic materials, paediatric watery eye management, squint surgery and routine and complex socket surgery. She routinely manages paediatric ocular conditions.
