Dr Kieran Moriarty studied medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge, and The London Hospital, Whitechapel, qualifying in 1975. He has been Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at the Royal Bolton Hospital since 1990.

Dr Moriarty is an international expert on abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea, constipation and alcoholic liver disease. Dr Moriarty has also written a book for patients entitled ‘Understanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome'. This has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide and translated into 8 languages. 

In 1999, he was made British Hospital Doctor of the Year and he was awarded the C.B.E. for Services to Medicine, particularly Gastroenterology, in 2002.
