My NHS experience includes running 3 cardiology units, being Lead Physician during a 3-year period of major disruption for the Medical, developing local cardiology service provision. I was co-founder and committee member of North Cumbria Disease Advisory Group and was committee member of HIMP board, South Tees & Northern Region Cardiothoracic Services Review Board, Member of Northern Cardiac Group and NCHA Futures Group Argyll and Clyde Managed Clinical Network meetings for Vale of Leven Hospital and advised Health Board the on the reconfiguration of services.
I was trained in non-invasive and invasive cardiology. My invasive cardiology experience began as Locum Senior Registrar at the London Hospital and my training consolidated during my registrar post at Groby Road where I became proficient at diagnostic angiography, coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology and pacing.
I have run three departments, worked in several gaining 19 years consultant experience. British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellow St. Thomas'. M.D. thesis In-vitro properties of human hypertrophic myocardium. I am also an Honorary registrar at Groby Road Hospital, Leicester.
I trained in invasive cardiology after completing medical registrar rotation, gastroenterology and nephrology. My organisational skills and personality facilitated an efficient, effective and caring service to patients. I was closely involved in developing medical audit and have experience in formulation and review of policies and protocols.
I enjoy teaching and have considerable experience in teaching of junior medical staff, medical students and nursing staff both at home and abroad.I was trained in cardiac catheterisation as an independent operator from both the femoral and brachial route and now use radial access. I was one of the first operators in routine and emergency coronary angioplasty, assisted in stent implantation, atherectomy, rotacs and balloon valvuloplasty. I am proficient in permanent pacemaker implants and have received training in electrophysiological studies as well as running an active medico-legal practice.
I am exploring innovative new models of delivering cardiology services using new technologies. My interest in management of chronic heart disease and associated long-term conditions using telemedicine includes remote monitoring of patients throughout the UK. I manage patients with coronary disease, hypertension, valve disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, syncope. I offer angiography, pacing ECHO, Transoesophageal ECHO. I also do home visits with ECG and ECHO, home telemedicine.
