Mark Farndon is an experienced Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon and lower limb specialist.
He was appointed as a consultant in 2010, has a busy NHS practice in Harrogate, has previously been both the Governance Lead and Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. He represents Harrogate on the Regional Surgical Training Committe and is currently the Medical Advisory Committee Chair of BMI The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate.
Mark undertook specialist fellowships in both foot & ankle surgery and knee surgery during his training.
Mark specialises in all aspects of foot & ankle surgery - Sports injuries / Joint replacement / Arthroplasty / Deformity correction / Arthroscopy & treatment of cartilage problems / Minimally invasive surgery / Arthrodesis & fusion surgery / Ligament & tendon repair / Nerve problems & neuroma treatment / Stress fractures / Revision surgery.
He has a secondary specialism in knee surgery - Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement surgery (both partial and total knee replacement)
Mark works closely with a variety of specialist surgical colleagues, physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthotists and allied health professionals.
He believes in providing the highest quality clinical information in an understandable manner. Excellent communication with thorough explanations of available options, allows informed choice to be made regarding treatment. Mark has a specialist interest in sports injuries and regularly advises and treats both keen amateurs and profesionals (including adolescents as well as adults).
Mark's interest in teaching and training began whilst working for Newcastle University as a Demonstrator in Anatomy and Clinical Skills.
He has been involved in training other doctors on Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) and ATLS Instructor courses. He has previously been invited to teach as an Instructor on pitch-side emergency courses for the Rugby Football Union (Immediate Care in Sport) and the Football Association (AREA).
Mark is the Sector Tutor for Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training, representing Harrogate on the regional Surgical Training Committee and organises the annual regional mock FRCS (Tr&Orth) exams. He is Educational and Clinical Supervisor to a number of junior doctors in training and teaches on a variety of local, national and international instructional courses.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys cycling, running, triathlon, snowboarding, cooking, spending time with his family and watching his sons play rugby.
