Personal profile

Dr Winter graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2000 and completed his post-graduate training in Medical Oncology at Weston Park Cancer Centre in 2011. He also undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship in Clinical and Translational Breast Cancer Research, leading to a Doctor of Medicine Degree (University of Sheffield).

In 2011, Dr Winter was appointed to his NHS Consultant Medical Oncologist post. He specialises in breast cancer and gestational trophoblastic disease, and is the Lead Breast Cancer Clinician at Weston Park Cancer Centre. He has been the NIHR Clinical Research Network Yorkshire and Humber Subspecialty Lead for Breast Cancer since 2015. He is also the Deputy Director of the Sheffield Trophoblastic Disease Centre based at Weston Park Cancer Centre and currently holds the role of Secretary of Executive Committee of the European Organisation for the Treatment of Trophoblastic Disease. In 2018, he was appointed to Honorary Reader in the Department of Oncology and Metabolism, University of Sheffield.

Dr Winter has a keen interest in clinical trials with many peer-reviewed publications in both breast cancer and gestational trophoblastic disease. He also enjoys teaching and has organised/co-chaired several national meetings since 2013.

  • All aspects of non-surgical systemic treatments of breast cancer and gestational trophoblastic disease including chemotherapy, hormonal therapies, targeted therapies and immunotherapy
