Dr Meena Virdi is a full time Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist Based in NHS Lanarkshire. She is the head of the Medical Retina Services and Lead Clinician for Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Services in Hairmyres Hospital.
The treatment of these conditions can include diagnostic tests like eye angiography and Optical coherence tomography. The treatment can involve intravitreal injections to help stabilise or improve vision in affected individuals. Early diagnosis, regular monitoring and treatment can be helpful in the management of the complex conditions. She is a skilled cataract surgeon, often performing complex cataract surgery with extensive experience in small incision cataracts, particularly in complex situations.
Dr Virdi graduated from Gujarat, India in 1989. She completed her post graduate training in the West of Scotland rotation, including most of the Hospitals around Glasgow. She completed her fellowship in Medical Retina in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. She is actively involved in multi-central research projects in NHS Lanarkshire and enjoys training of medical students, Nurses and Optometrists. She is also an Examiner for the Royal college of Surgeons and Physicians, Glasgow.
