Personal profile

Miss Melanie Chak is Ophthalmic A&E Consultant for the whole of Berkshire and currently works at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading and the Prince Charles Eye Unit, Windsor. She also maintains a strong interest in cataract surgery and in oculoplastic and lacrimal disorders as well as general and primary care ophthalmology.

Miss Chak attended medical school at Cambridge University and the Royal Free Hospital, London.  After graduation in 1997 she underwent thorough and comprehensive training in all aspects of ophthalmology at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and as a Specialist Registrar at Oxford. She also completed 2 years of intensive research leading to a higher degree at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London on Cataract. Her ophthalmic training continued with 2 years of specialist training in oculoplastics and lacrimal surgery.

Miss Chak has published widely with most interest in cataract and oculoplastic disorders. She continues to teach at the Oxford Oculoplastics Course and is active in teaching GPs, Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
