Personal Profile

Dr Mick Ozkor qualified at Imperial College School of Medicine in 1997. Since then, he has worked in several London teaching hospitals (St Mary’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the London Chest Hospital) and was appointed Consultant Cardiologist to The Heart Hospital, University College Hospitals and North Middlesex University Hospital in November 2010.

Whilst running a busy NHS practice, Dr Ozkor routinely sees patients with a wide range of common cardiac problems. Dr Ozkor is a specialist in complex coronary treatments such as balloon angioplasty and stenting. He specialises in radial access procedures and regularly performs intervention to vein grafts, chronic total occlusions and left main stems.

He has experience in the use of interventional adjuncts such as thrombectomy devices, distal protection and rotational atherectomy as well as the interpretation of IVUS and pressure wire data. In 2005, he took a three-year sabbatical to complete his MD at Emory University in Atlanta, USA. He was awarded a British Cardiovascular Society Research Fellowship to undertake a National Institute of Health funded translational research study focusing on vascular and endothelial function.

His work was rewarded both at the local level with Merit awards and recognized at an International level at the American College of Cardiology Conference in March 2009 when he was shortlisted as a Young Investigator Award Finalist and became runner-up. He has an interest in putting patient safety first.

He has run multiple audit projects and has run major clinical governance projects including improving access and timing to the Heart Attack Centre for all Acute Coronary Syndromes, ensuring accuracy and quality of data entry in the catheter lab and kidney function monitoring post angiography.

He is one of the key players in the Heart Hospital’s Heart Attack service and the development of the extension of the Heart Attack Centre to high risk chest pain patients. He is accredited in both cardiology and general medicine.
