Dr Nasir Abbas trained in Nephrology and General Medicine in Manchester. He has been working as a consultant nephrologist at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital since 2001.
His clinical practice includes all aspects of renal medicine including general nephrology, dialysis and transplantation. His special clinical interests are management of patients with chronic kidney disease including their work-up for dialysis and transplantation, management of acute kidney injury management of patients on home haemodialysis, haematoproteinuria, glomerular diseases and hypertention.
Dr Abbas’s main research interest is in interaction between kidney and cardiovascular disease and role of cardiac biomarkers in chronic kidney disease. He has published his work on cardiac troponins and BNP in non-dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease.
He is actively involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors and organises weekly teaching programmes for continuous medical education for the renal department.
