Dr Neil Davidson is a highly experienced consultant cardiologist with specialist expertise in heart rhythm management. He offers a full range of treatment options for conditions such as palpitations and atrial fibrillation.
Since 2002 Dr Davidson has been consultant cardiologist at the University Hospital of South Manchester (Wythenshawe Hospital), where he developed a comprehensive heart rhythm and cardiac device services for patients from across the North West. He has a particular interest in atrial fibrillation and believes in a holistic approach to managing patients with heart rhythm disturbance. This includes medical therapy, support for lifestyle modification and a full range of invasive procedures. He has performed over 2500 ablation procedures with excellent success rates and low complication rates in regular audits.
Dr Davidson is involved in the teaching of medical students, junior doctors and other staff groups, this has been an important part of his work. He has lectured throughout the UK and abroad, and he is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. He has published over 50 research papers on heart disease. Recently Dr Davidson has trained other cardiac electrophysiologists across the UK in the technique of cryo-ablation for atrial fibrillation.
Neil has served as an elected council member and Education Officer for Heart Rhythm UK and council member of the Arrhythmia Alliance. For 4 years Dr Davidson was Clinical Director of Cardiothoracic Services at UHSM, and having a longstanding passion for sport and a professional interest in sports cardiology, Dr Davidson sees many elite and non-elite athletes with heart problems. He has recently set up the Performance Cardiology service to deal specifically with this.
