Dr Adams undertook specialist training in respiratory medicine in London largely at Kings College Hospital, St Thomas’s and Guys. His MD was undertaken in relation to evidence based medicine in airways disease under the mentorship of Professor Paul W Jones at St George’s Hospital Medical School. He was appointed as a consultant physician in general and respiratory medicine at Worthing Hospital in 2005. 

Dr Adams is involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students, foundation doctors, core training grade doctors and specialist training doctors in respiratory medicine. He has 17 years of experience in fibreoptic bronchoscopy and non-invasive ventilation (NIPPV) and is competent in a range of pleural procedures including the deployment of tunnelled indwelling pleural catheters.

Clinical Interests

Dr Adams has over 10 years of experience in all aspects of adult respiratory medicine including interstitial lung disease, pleural disease and respiratory failure. However his particular interests include adult airways disease, lung cancer and clinically applied exercise physiology. In his NHS practice he is the clinical lead for adult asthma, is the clinical lead for the lung cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) and runs the diagnostic cardiopulmonary exercise testing service (CPET). Patients should please note however that CPET is generally not covered by any of the major health insurance providers.
