Personal Profile

Nick is an experienced fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary’s, University of London. He specialises in upper limb surgery and complex trauma, treating most conditions of the upper limb. He was appointed to an NHS consultant post at the internationally renowned Barts Health NHS Trust, which includes one of the busiest trauma units in the country at the Royal London Hospital. He has also been appointed as the Clinical Lead for the Whipps Cross site which provides regional fragility care.

Nick trained in London on the prestigious Percivall Pott rotation and was awarded several prizes during his training. He undertook a clinical fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital under the guidance of internationally acclaimed shoulder and elbow surgeons. He was also awarded a British Orthopaedic Association travelling fellowship to North America to visit some of the world’s most influential and pioneering surgeons including Steve Burkhart and David Ring. Prior to his training he studied medicine at University College London, where he was also awarded a BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology.

Nick has previously worked as a Clinical Fellow to the National Medical Director, during which time worked on healthcare policy and regulation. He was based at the Care Quality Commission where he worked on regulation of the independent and mental health sectors. Nick sits on various national and regional committees including the British Orthopaedic Association’s Orthopaedic committee. He continues to be involved in various streams of work with NHS England and has been engaged by large media organisations for opinions and his expertise. 

Nick has written three surgical textbooks, numerous book chapters and has published research in international peer-reviewed journals. He continues to pursue an academic career and acts as a co-PI (Principal Investigator) on national research projects. He has led a large study on the psychosocial impact of musculoskeletal disease. His contribution to teaching has led to the award of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Nick also regularly teaches at Queen Mary’s University and run’s a module on an Trauma & Orthopaedic MSc programme. This has led to his being awarded the title of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer. 

Nick is a firm believer of providing a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to the treatment of orthopaedic disorders, using the most up to date technology and pioneering methods. Where possible he will always use minimally invasive and arthroscopic (key hole) procedures, with patients awake so that recovery can be optimised. 

He works alongside leading physiotherapists and anaesthetists in a well balanced team, intervening surgically only where appropriate. He similarly works closely with both academic and commissioning groups to ensure that patients get the right treatment at the right time. He ensures that patients physical, social and mental health needs are always considered together.  

Nick was born and raised in North London where he continues to live with his young family. He is an avid cyclist and when not at work, can be often spotted cycling somewhere around Hertfordshire.

  • Fractures and sports related injuries of the shoulder, elbow and wrist
  • Surgical and non-surgical treatment of arthritis of the shoulder and elbow (including joint replacement and comprehensive keyhole surgery)
  • Keyhole (arthroscopic) treatment of the shoulder and elbow, including treatment of rotator cuff tears, tendon injuries and arthritis
  • Treatment of the dislocating shoulder and elbow (instability)
  • Carpal and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome treatment
  • Ganglion treatment
  • Tendon repairs (including biceps tendon)
