Nigel is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, Clinical Lead for Orthopaedic Trauma & Major Incidents and previous Clinical Director at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. Previously in the Army – he trained in London, Londonderry, Belfast, Gosport, Plymouth, and Oxford, and, has done fellowship training in UK, USA & Russia.
His principal areas of practice are in Orthopaedic Trauma, all aspects of Knee surgery & soft tissue Shoulder surgery. He led the setting up of the South-Central Trauma System & Networks. He is listed in Who’s Who, a Past President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society, a trustee of the Primary Trauma Care Foundation, and, founder of a hospital charity.
He has been Trainer of the Year for the Wessex area, “NHS Shine Awards Inspiring Educator of the year” (twice), and, a Hippocrates Award for excellence in the field of medicine from Who’s Who. He chaired the AO Advances & Principles courses in UK & Ireland for 7 years for Orthopaedic Trauma education, faculty for the Current Concepts, and, Training the Trainers courses. He has been a member of a NICE committee. He co-authored the original STEP course for RCSEng & has been a Basic Surgical Skills tutor. He is Chairman of Incision Medical Indemnity: insuring 200+ surgeons.
