Nigel is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, Clinical Lead for Trauma & Major Incidents and previous Clinical Director at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. Previously in the Army – he trained in London, Londonderry, Belfast, Gosport, Plymouth, and Oxford, and, has done fellowship training in UK, USA & Russia.
His principal areas of practice are in Orthopaedic Trauma, all aspects of Knee surgery & soft tissue Shoulder surgery. He led the setting up of the South Central Trauma System & Networks. He is a Past President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society, a trustee of the Primary Trauma Care Foundation, and, founder of a hospital charity.
He has been Trainer of the Year for the Wessex area, “NHS Shine Awards Inspiring Educator of the year” (twice), and, an Hippocrates Award for excellence in the field of medicine from Who’s Who. He chaired the AO Advances & Principles courses in UK & Ireland for 7 years for Orthopaedic Trauma education, faculty for the Current Concepts, and, Training the Trainers courses. He has been a member of a NICE committee. He co-authored the original STEP course for RCSEng & has been a Basic Surgical Skills tutor. He is Chairman of Incision Medical Indemnity: insuring 200+ surgeons.
