After training in Oxford and gaining further specialist spine surgery experience during a fellowship in France, Nigel Henderson was appointed as consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a particular interest in spinal surgery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1986. During his early career he maintained broad interests in orthopaedic and spine surgery including sporting injuries. His practice increasingly focused on spinal surgery, spinal injury and lumbar back pain disorders. He retired from the NHS in 2019. For the last 5 years he was Clinical Director of the National Spinal Injuries Centre. He has contributed extensively in the field of spinal surgery, in training of spine surgeons, as President of the British Association of Spine Surgeons, and memberships of the National Spinal Task Force, the UK Spine Societies Board, and the NHS England Complex Spine Surgery and Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Reference Groups.
Mr Henderson’s current practice is centred on the assessment of all spinal conditions, and in particular the management and surgery for low back pain and sciatica.
