Personal profile

Ms Nishani Amerasinghe is a Consultant Ophthalmologist based in the South of England. She specialises in General Ophthalmology with a particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of Glaucoma and Cataract surgery. She is an NHS Consultant at University Hospital Southampton and works privately at a number of hospitals around the region.

She has published extensively  in the major ophthalmology journals around the world, written textbook chapters and has presented internationally and nationally many times in Glaucoma and General Ophthalmology.  Ms Amerasinghe regularly reviews academic and research articles for the leading journals in Ophthalmology.

Ms Amerasinghe has a comprehensive surgical training porfolio, with particular emphasis on cataract and complex glaucoma surgery. She aims to provide a personalised, rapid and reliable service to all her patients.Ms Amerasinghe was born and brought up in West London before graduating from St Mary's Hospital Medical School, Imperial College, London in 1998. 

She completed Wessex Ophthalmology rotation including advanced speciality training in Glaucoma at Southampton and Portsmouth Hospitals. Subsequently, she undertook a further 2 years advanced training as a Clinical Glaucoma Research Fellow at the world renowned Singapore National Eye Centre, and a Clinical Glaucoma fellowship at the internationally acclaimed Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She is a Consultant at Southampton University Hospitals Trust having previously been a Consultant at Moorfields and St Richard's Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital.

Ms Amerasinghe has completed a large research project looking at the Heritability of Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma. 

During her training Ms Amerasinghe received a number of awards and scholarships as recognition for her sustained clinical and academic excellence. She can be found on the General Medical Council's Specialist register for Ophthalmology.

Ms Amerasinghe is an expert in the latest surgical, diagnostic and management techniques in Ophthalmology ensuring you will have the best current practice available. 

She is happily married with three young children.
