Miss Ourania Frangouli is a substantive Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She has a subspecialty interest in cataracts, complex cataract surgery, glaucoma management, glaucoma lasers and paediatric ophthalmology. She is also a key member of the general/ community and emergency ophthalmology team and manages acute and urgent eye presentations in the tertiary emergency ophthalmology department at Imperial College Healthcare Ophthalmology department.
Miss Frangouli qualified in 1997 and completed her specialist ophthalmology training in the London Deanery based at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She subsequently undertook dual sub-specialty training in Moorfields Eye Hospital by completing two clinical and surgical fellowships in Glaucoma (adult and paediatric glaucoma) and in paediatric ophthalmology. She is a Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (MRCOphth and FRCOphth) and included in the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology of the General Medical Council.
Miss Frangouli currently holds the post of Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology in London. She is also a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Training The Trainers Subcommittee. She is a dedicated medical educator and ophthalmic surgery trainer supporting Ophthalmology trainees and delivering Training the Trainers courses for ophthalmology consultant colleagues and allied health professionals. She has held the posts of Unit Training Lead and College Tutor for Ophthalmology. She is a member of the Education Faculty at Imperial College Healthcare and North West London regional education team. She is a senior examiner in the European Board of Ophthalmology and an Honorary EBO Fellow. Her dedication in medical training has been reflected in two awards received in 2017 by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Education Team and in 2019 “Best Trainer Commendation” for North Thames by Health Education England. Miss Frangouli is also a council member in MCLOSA, the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association.
Before joining Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust she worked as a Consultant in Glaucoma and Medical Education at Moorfields Eye Hospital and BHR NHS University Trusts and in these posts she led glaucoma service and training improvements with a strong commitment to clinical governance and patient centered care.
Miss Frangouli has excellent 360 feedback from her clinics, surgical patients, her colleagues and trainees. She has delivered numerous presentations in national and international meetings.
She enjoys charitable work related to Medicine and Ophthalmology. She has served for over 10 years in the Executive Committee of a UK registered medical charity and carries out voluntary ophthalmic consulting for charitable organisations abroad with a focus on patient education on glaucoma.
Miss Frangouli is also fluent in Greek and basic French.
