Professor Paul Lee is double board certified in Orthopaedic surgery, he has a specialist interest in sports, regenerative surgery and cell based medicine. Prof Lee has successfully applied his research to clinical use; treated UK premiership footballers for muscle injuries which significantly reduced their time for recovery and return to play. He has treated sports injuries in high-level athletes and has been offering performance medicine consultations, treatment and lectures to elite sports teams since 2010. His clinical interests are lower limb surgery, cartilage regeneration and sports surgery.
He was appointed as consultant orthopaedic surgeon and regenerative medicine doctor with specialist interest in arthroplasty, sports and regenerative lower limb surgery in 2017 in the United Lincolnshire Hospitals trust. In 2018 he was appointed as a visiting professor for Sports Medicine at the University of Lincoln. He is the founding director for MSK doctors which offer cutting edge medical therapy options to patients.
Prof Paul Y F Lee received his medical degree (MB BCh) from Cardiff University, Wales, UK. During his higher surgical training, he has become a certified Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (MFSEM) and Fellow in the European (FEBOT) and UK (FRCS) Trauma and Orthopaedics boards. Fully accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC) as a specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery.
To further develop his expertise in arthritis, complex orthopaedic surgery and regenerative medicine, he has undertaken further national fellowship training in the internationally renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedics Hospital in Oswestry in association with the British Orthopaedics Association's clinical leadership programme. Working with the late Professor James Richardson, he become involve in autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) and adult stem cell clinical research. (ASCOT and ACTIVE trial)
Prof Lee has an excellent profile in research; after completing his MSc in Sports and Exercise medicine in 2011, he was able to continue his research to a PhD level. He was awarded the Orthopaedics Travelling Fellowship in 2013 to visit the EndoKlinik, Germany and a Sports Medicine travelling fellowship in 2014 to present his work and gain further experience on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Stem Cells & Autologous Conditioning Serum (ACS) in Australia, Lipogems in Italy.
Prof. Lee has a passion to apply clinical data and biomechanical principles to hip and knee replacement surgery. He embraces the British heritage and craftsmanship of a well planned S.P.A.I.R.E. Total Hip replacement. He completed the highly competitive prestigious Robin Ling Exeter Hip fellowship in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital, England; it helped him to further develop his skills and learnt the original techniques from the centre which invented the Exeter Hip, impaction bone grafting and cementing since 1970. He is on the faculty for the Exeter Hip course.
Prof Lee is on the General Medical Council, UK (GMC) specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery.
