Personal profile

Mr Goodfellow was a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital and now focuses on private practice at Thornbury Hospital and The Huddersfield Hospital.

He qualified from Sheffield University and gained his fellowship in General Surgery in 1997 and has trained in a wide range of centres around the world including Australia, Scotland and Germany.

Mr Goodfellow has taught widely and has held an appointment on the Association of Coloproctology education committee. He has published widely including a surgical textbook, and co-authoring national guidelines.

He was president of the Dukes’ Club for colorectal trainees and a member of the Association of Coloproctology Education committee. He developed his interest in laparoscopic surgery as a trainee and has continued this developing laparoscopic colorectal surgery in the NHS.

In 2015 Mr Goodfellow left Chesterfield to concentrate on both NHS and private work within the independent sector. Peter has worked at Board level with different healthcare providers since 2012.

He is a keen sportsman himself having represented Great Britain at triathlon and has a speciality interest in groin surgery, both for hernia and sportsman’s groin injuries.
