Mr Peter Bryan Goodfellow

Personal profile

Peter qualified in 1993 and completed a broad based surgical training working across the UK and also in Australia. He has been an established consultant general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgeon since 2004. He implemented and developed the laparoscopic colorectal service at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, where he was audit and research lead, and then Associate Clinical Director for surgical services.

Peter has taught widely and has held an appointment on the Association of Coloproctolgy education committee. He has published widely including a surgical textbook, and co-authoring national guidelines.

In 2015 Peter left Chesterfield to concentrate on both NHS and private work within the independent sector. Peter has worked at Board level with different healthcare providers since 2012.

Clinical Interests

  • Hernia repairs – open, laparoscopic, mini-incision. All types including inguinal, umbilical, incisional, femoral. Special interest in sportsman’s hernia.
  • GI endoscopy – colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy.
  • Colorectal surgery – including rectal bleeding, bowel habit changes, anal pain and their causes including diverticular disease, polyps, haemorrhoids, fistula, fissure.
  • Gallstones and laparoscopic removal (keyhole) – laparoscopic cholecystectomy Lumps and bumps
