Peter Dacombe

Professional Profile

Mr Peter Dacombe is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Great Western Hospital and The Ridgeway Hospital. He has a specialist interest in Upper Limb Surgery with his main focus being surgery to the Shoulder and Elbow.

Peter graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 2007 before undertaking basic training in London and completing an MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine for which he was awarded a Distinction. He completed basic and higher surgical training in the South West (Severn) region primarily in Bristol and the surrounding hospitals.

After completing UK training he travelled to Perth, Western Australia to complete a Fellowship in Upper Limb and Trauma Surgery, honing his skills in shoulder and elbow arthrosopic surgery, shoulder replacement surgery, soft tissue reconstruction and complex fracture surgery to the upper limb. Since returning the UK Peter has been awarded the prestigious Watanabe Shoulder Arthroscopy Fellowship allowing him to spend time learning novel and complex arthroscopic techniques from the best surgeons in England, Scotland and Ireland.

Away from surgery Peter has a passion for sports medicine and has worked with the England and Wales Cricket Board on systems to prevent injuries in young cricketers, and with the Bristol Bears Rugby Academy as a pitchside doctor. He is a keen amateur sportsman himself enjoying tennis, running, swimming and golf and spends his weekends taking his 2 young boys to rugby and swimming lessons.

The majority of upper limb conditions can be treated without the need for surgery and Peter understands the importance of a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care. He has good working relationships with local physiotherapists, radiologists and anaesthetists who all play a key role in the patient’s recovery.

Peter brings a modern and patient centred approach to his practice at the Ridgeway with a focus on accurate diagnosis, shared decision making and utilising modern surgical and non-surgical techniques to get the best outcomes for his patients.
