I was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at North Bristol NHS Trust in 2008. My specialist interests included capsule endoscopy, device assisted enteroscopy and advanced endocopy including therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
I strongly believe in the provison of safe, patient friendly care and during my training undertook a 14 month endoscopy fellowship to obtain a high level of expertise in endoscopic procedures. At Southmead Hospital I provide a tertiary referral service for investigation of the small bowel with capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy.I regularly provide postgraduate training to other doctors on the use of capsule endocopy and enteroscopy. I am one of a handful of clinicians to provide spiral enteroscopy in the UK and organise an annual training course in this procedure to teach other consultants the technique.
I am active in research and am currently participating in a study investigating possible causes of weight loss in patients with Huntingdon’s disease.Recent presentations at international meetings include studies on the correlation of capsule endoscopy findings with spiral enteroscopy.
