Dr Ruzicka qualified as a Doctor of Medicine in 1997 and as a junior doctor he assisted in one of the first 24/7 primary PCI programmes in the world (the first PRAGUE study) at St. Ann’s University Hospital in Brno, Czech Republic. He received postgraduate certification in General Medicine (MRCP equivalent) in 2000 and trained in cardiology in the Centre of Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery in Brno with regular cath lab list (coronary angiograms with ad hoc PCI and heart transplant MOT with myocardial biopsies), echo lists, perioperative TOEs, on-call for standard wards, cardio-thoracic ICU and for TOE for emergencies. He received accreditation in Cardiology (cum laude) in 2004 (CCST equivalent) and PhD for work on transcatheter treatment of secundum atrial septal defect in 2005.
Dr Ruzicka moved to the UK and was appointed a Consultant Cardiologist at Trafford General Hospital in 2007. He re-started coronary angiography, TOE and permanent pacing at Trafford, expanded clinics and upgraded departmental equipment. He received 5 Clinical Excellency Awards, was appointed Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London in 2011 and received European Accreditation in Pacing and ICDs in 2014. He is proficient in all aspects of general cardiology including echocardiography (TTE and TOE), cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation. Following the creation of Manchester University Foundation Trust he provides specialist input for Trafford inpatients, runs and supervises cardiology, pacemaker and rapid access chest pain clinics at Trafford and Altrincham Hospitals and participates in Consultant of the week cover at Manchester Heart Centre/ Manchester Royal Infirmary.
He is interested in angina, valve disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and arrhythmias. He performs coronary angiograms, transthoracic and transoesophageal echo and implants loop recorders for patients with blackouts.
