Personal profile

Mr D'Urso originally trained in Italy, where he obtained a medical degree and CCT in Neurosurgery. He worked in Italy as Neurosurgeon until 2009 and then moved to the USA for a year for research at the prestigious Mayo Clinic. In 2011, he moved to London where he specialised in Surgical Neuro-oncology.

Mr D'Urso was appointed Consultant Neurosurgeon with sub-specialty interest in Neuro-oncology at Salford Royal Hospital in 2014.

He routinely managed general neurosurgical conditions including trauma, hydrocephalus, degenerative spine disease, pain management and peripheral neuropathies warranting surgical intervention.

Mr D’Urso is also heavily involved in training and teaching. He is author of Neurosurgical book chapters and acts as a reviewer for international neurosurgical journals, including World Neurosurgery, Surgical Neurology International and British Journal of Neurosurgery.   

His interests also lie in surgical treatment of benign and malignant brain tumours, awake craniotomies with brain mapping, intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring, fluorescence guided resection of brain tumours, minimally invasive cranial surgery and cranial endoscopy.

  • Routinely manages general neurosurgical conditions including brain tumours, degenerative spine, head trauma, brain haemorrhages, hydrocephalus, neck pain and lower back pain
  • Provides specialist care for patients with benign and malignant brain tumours, including astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, glioblastomas, ependymomas, brain metastases, meningiomas, cavernomas, hemangioblastomas, brain cysts, pineal cysts and pineal tumours
  • Specialises in awake craniotomies with brain mapping, brain tumour resections with fluorescence and intraoperative ultrasounds techniques, intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring, neuro-navigation, minimally invasive cranial surgery and cranial endoscopy
