Mr R. Maximilian Cervellione trained in paediatric surgery at the University of Verona (Italy) before joining Manchester (UK) as a fellow in paediatric surgery and urology. In 2007 he was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. In 2009 Mr Cervellione attained a 12-month sabbatical from his NHS consultant post which allowed him to move to the United States and obtain the Paediatric Urology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Mr Cervellione currently works as a full time paediatric urologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and he is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Human Development School of Biomedicine, University of Manchester. Mr Cervellione is an international recognised expert for genital and urological paediatric and adolescent reconstruction.
His main clinical interest is the Bladder Exstrophy Complex and Epispadias for which he is one of the main exstrophy surgeons in the UK. He leads the Bladder Exstrophy Unit in Manchester, one of the two commissioned centres for the treatment of this group of conditions in the U.K. Mr Cervellione offers also support to colleges abroad involved in the treatment of exstrophy and epispadias.
Mr Cervellione has developed particular knowledge and skills in the treatment of paediatric and adolescent varicocele and has created a ‘varicocele paediatric clinic’ in Manchester which offers an up to date care for children with this condition. He is the principal investigator for the “Randomized Prospective Controlled Study On The Effect Of Surgery On Fertility In Adolescent With Varicocele”.
Mr Cervellione has published over 50 articles in major international scientific journals and presented more then 80 abstracts in the UK, Europe and United States. Mr Cervellione is a regular reviewer for Journal of Paediatric Urology, Journal of Urology and British Journal of Urology for bladder exstrophy, varicocele and general paediatric urology.
