Personal profile

Dr Ahmad has qualified from Sheffield University Medical School and trained in General Medicine in Sheffield and Hull and subsequently in Cardiology in the West Midlands. He was appointed to current post in 1994. 

Dr Ahmad served as Clinical Director of Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull Cardiac Network and Chair of the West Midlands Cardiac Services Committee (2003-2008), Clinical Director (Cardiology) in Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust for 6 years (2007-2013) and was a member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guideline development group (Lipid modification) in 2012-2014.

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and member of the West Midlands Physicians Association
  • Member of the British Cardiovascular Society, British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and the British Heart Valve Society

Clinical Interests

Percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty and stenting), care of patients with coronary heart disease, angina, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation), hypertension and structural heart disease including extensive local, regional and international expertise in mitral balloon valvuloplasty.
