Professor Rajat Mathur is a senior consultant physician in respiratory medicine and a Royal College tutor at Ealing Hospital, London. He has a special interest in training and is experience in sleep disorders.
He trained in London (St Mary’s Hospital Medical School), Nottingham (University and City Hospitals) and Edinburgh (Scottish National Sleep Centre, Royal Infirmary, University of Edinburgh). His fellowship in sleep disorders at the Scottish National Sleep Centre led to numerous publications in the field of sleep and respiratory medicine and award of PhD in genetics of sleep apnoea from the University of Edinburgh in 1995.
Professor Mathur has also done seminal research into cerebral bioenergetics in hypoxic patients with COPD using the magnetic resonance spectroscopy at the Medical Research Council Robert Steiner MR unit at Hammersmith Hospital, London.
He has helped to establish sleep services at St Mary’s Hospital, London, and has been consultant in charge of sleep services at Hammersmith Hospital, and consultant sleep physician at Charing Cross Hospital, London.
He is also the lead consultant at Ealing Hospital in sleep medicine and non-invasive ventilation and a member of British Sleep Society.
