Dr Mitchell did his undergraduate training in Queens university Belfast before moving to Warwickshire to study medicine at the University of Warwick. After initially starting surgical training in orthopaedics he moved into general practice training and has been a partner in a busy NHS surgery in Hinckley for two years.
He is also completing a masters degree in Sports Medicine and is currently one of the team doctors for Wasps RFC having worked at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Rugby World cup 2015. He also works as a speciality doctor in sports medicine at the National Centre for Sports Medicine in Loughborough through UHL.
As well as his experience in sports medicine, he is the lead doctor for cancer in his practice and has an interest in early cancer diagnosis as well as mental health problems. He is also an honorary clinical lecturer at his former medical school Warwick, and is the medical student lead for teaching at his practice.
