Mr Mohil graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1997. Following this, he completed his basic surgical training in Salford. He then completed his Higher Surgical Training in the North West Region.
In 2009, he passed the intercollegiate Trauma & Orthopaedic exam and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He then undertook specialist Fellowship training in hand and upper limb disorders at the renowned Upper Limb unit at Wrightington Hospital in Lancashire, working with internationally known surgeons including Professor Ian Trail, Mike Hayton and Sumedh Talwalkar. This further developed his interest in hand and wrist disorders.
Mr Mohil was appointment as Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust in November 2010. He is now an established Hand and Upper limb surgeon. His current NHS practice is at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospitals. He also receives out of area referrals.
His practice involves the use of wide-awake surgery – WALANT – wide awake local anaesthetic no tourniquet. This allows patients to remain awake whilst undergoing upper limb surgery. This potentially reduces risk around surgery and results in a shorter hospital stay. He offers a comprehensive multi-disciplinary upper limb approach through close links with hand therapists/radiologists. Mr Mohil works with hand therapists to provide a range of treatment for hand and wrist arthritis, for example.
At the clinic, Mr Mohil will do his best to diagnose your problem, focus on your functional requirements and deliver a specific treatment programme which is best for you. Whether it is surgical or non surgical treatment that is required, all the potential benefits and risks will be discussed openly in the clinic.
Mr Mohil remains actively involved in teaching and research and is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). Mr Mohil recognises the importance of keeping up to date with the latest technologies and procedures for the benefit of his patients. He is actively involved in both undergraduate and post graduate education. Mr Mohil is Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and University of Lancaster Medical Schools. Mr Mohil is a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
His current research interests include the use of patient-reported outcome measures in hand and wrist surgery. He regularly teaches on post-graduate courses, locally and nationally in relation to hand and wrist surgery.
Mr Mohil is an invited Faculty Member at the Wrightington FRCS Upper Limb course. He is widely published in the medical journals and lectures nationally and internationally on hand and wrist disorders. By teaching, researching, writing and attending post-graduate meetings, this gives excellent opportunities to remain informed and current with regards to his clinical practice in upper limb disorders.
