Dr Ravi Misra is a gastroenterologist and endoscopist with a specialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He was appointed as a substantive consultant at St. Mark’s Hospital, an internationally recognised centre for the treatment of bowel disease. 

He qualified from Imperial College, London in 2005. He completed an intercalated BSc. in Surgical Science. His junior doctor training in medical specialities took place on the Hammersmith hospitals rotation. Dr. Misra passed his membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008. He entered specialist training on the prestigious North West London rotation. He has completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at St Mark’s Hospital and is skilled at diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Misra runs a complex IBD tertiary service receiving referrals from the south of England.  

Dr. Misra is a keen educator. He has led teaching at all levels of undergraduate teaching. He is a regular contributor to the St. Mark’s postgraduate teaching course which welcomes candidates from all over the world. He was appointed a fellow of the Higher Education Academy having demonstrated effective teaching through a recognised accreditation programme. 

Dr. Misra was awarded a PhD from Imperial College through his work with the Centre for Digestive Health to study microbiome changes in IBD. He also has an interest in the impact of diet in newly diagnosed patients with IBD. Dr Misra’s research has provided the opportunity to present his research findings by oral presentation at international conferences and publish articles in peer reviewed journals. He has published papers on the impact of ethnicity on ulcerative colitis. He is a member of the Epicom study group which is a Europe wide collaboration investigating the epidemiology of IBD.

He maintains an active research interest as a honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College and supervises students in obtaining higher research degrees. Dr. Misra has contributed to national trials as a principal investigator. He is currently actively recruiting patients to National Institute of Health trials as well as commercial drug trials.   

Dr Misra sees all aspects of gastrointestinal disorders such as bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, reflux and abdominal pain. He is proficient at diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including the assessment and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, polyps and cancers. He is proficient at speaking Hindi and Urdu. He employs a patient centred approach with shared decision making. Listening to the patient and understanding their concerns are key to creating an individualised management plan.
