Mrs Renée Behrens has been a Consultant Gynaecologist at The Royal Hampshire County Hospital since March 2008. Her appointment was specifically to expand the provision of minimal access surgery and to develop the service dealing with complications of early pregnancy.
She completed medical training gaining honours in 1990 and went on to do extensive post-graduate training in London, working at both Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals. During this time she spent three years working in the Hammersmith In-Vitro Fertilisation Unit and completed research in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Fertility.
A further two-year surgical fellowship in minimal access (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) surgery led to accreditation in this area by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She is awaiting formal accreditation in ultrasound scanning and is able to offer this as part of the gynaecological outpatient visit if required.
In her current role, Mrs Behrens covers all gynaecological conditions. Her areas of special interest include laparoscopic surgery, fertility, complications of early pregnancy, menstrual disorders, endometriosis and the menopause.
Mrs Behrens is a member of The British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy and the British Fertility Society.
