Mrs Renée Behrens was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at The Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) in 2008.  Her areas of specialist interest include laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, early pregnancy complications, and fertility. She expanded the provision of minimal access surgery and was integral to the introduction of laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic myomectomy at RHCH. She developed and led the early pregnancy unit, a service dealing with complications of early pregnancy, until January 2023. Renée also leads the Fertility service including offering specialist fertility surgery, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and recurrent pregnancy loss clinics. She is the Deputy Clinical Director and Lead for gynaecology at RHCH and is the Lead Clinician for gynaecology at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board which comprises of 4 Hospital trusts serving the South East of England.

Renée completed her medical training in 1990 gaining honours and went on to do extensive post-graduate training in London, working at both Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals. During this time she developed expertise in Infertility spending three years working in the Hammersmith In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Unit. She was successful in obtaining a Wellcome Research fellowship and was awarded a Masters (MD) degree from the University of London for research into Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and embryo implantation in 2009.

In her current role, Renée covers most benign gynaecological conditions. Her areas of specialist interest include laparoscopic surgery, fertility, reversal of sterilisation, complications of early pregnancy, menstrual and hormonal disorders, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries and the menopause.

Renée continues to be actively involved in research and projects as both a Clinical and Principal Investigator. She speaks locally and nationally and is involved in training the next generation of doctors.
