Personal Profile

Mr Chalmers has 15 years experience in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He qualified from the Royal Free University Hospital Medical School in London in 2002 and trained at plastic surgery units around the country, including St George’s Hospital, London, The Lister Hospital, Stevenage and Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. His higher plastic surgical training began in the North East, training in all aspects of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetics at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle and the University Hospital of North Durham where he currently works as a Substantive Consultant and Lead Clinician for skin ancer. He was the regional plastics trainee representative for a number of years and also the trainee representative on the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology council at the Royal College of Surgeon of England. He runs a number of training sessions for the Northern Deanery training programme, is a member of the ARCP training panel and of the Specialty Training Committee for Plastic Surgery. 

Within his NHS practice, he manages a busy Oncology practice, is the Trust Lead Clinician for skin cancer and chairs the specialist regional Skin MDT. He is the primary head and neck skin cancer surgeon for the trust and specialises in all aspects of post resection reconstruction. Mr Chalmers treats breast patients for large reductions and management of asymmetries and previous augmentations, including capsule work and exchange of implants. Within his cosmetic practice, he offers all aspects of head and neck and facial rejuvenation, as well as cosmetic enhancement of the trunk and abdomen – in particular breast augmentation, mastopexy, augmentation mastopexy, abdominoplasty, liposuction and improvements following weight loss.

He performs nasal fracture manipulation and functional rhinoplasty following trauma, as well as cosmetic rhinoplasty. He also performs complex nasal reconstruction following cancer excisions. He offers lipofilling/lipomodeling or dermal filler treatments to post trauma or cancer defects as well as for cosmetic enhancements.

Within the scope of his specialist interest of head and neck surgery, facial palsy and cosmetic head and neck surgery, he offers eyelid surgery: blepharoplasty – upper and lower, gold weight insertion, correction of ectropion, direct, transpalprebral or endoscopic brow lift in combination with midface lift/smile correction, neck lift and pinnaplasty (prominent ear correction) surgery. 

For facial rejuvenation, he offers a short scar MACS facelift and deep plane facelift. For 5 years he has had a successful filler and injectables practice within the Sk:n Clinic group in Hampstead and East Finchley, London as well as in the North East at James Cook University Hospital. This includes dermal fillers for volume enhancements, to tear troughs, nasolabial folds, jowls, lip augmentation, non-surgical face lift and non-surgical rhinoplasty. He also offers Botulinum toxin treatments for complications of facial palsy spasm and has set up an MDT managing facial palsy for County Durham.

He continues to publish regularly on all topics relating to plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery with over 22 peer reviewed articles, a number of book chapters (notably on facial palsy) and has over 20 presentations internationally and nationally notably in Hollywood, Boston, Rome, Vienna, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast and London. He is a current peer reviewer for the eminent Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. 

His cosmetic training has been within highly regarded private hospital groups such as Circle Health Group, Spire and Nuffield Health in the North East as well as HCA Healthcare UK @ The London Bridge Hospital, The Shard and the Weymouth Street Hospitals in London. He has also had cosmetic experience at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.
