Personal Profile

Dr Richard Collins is a Consultant specialising in Sport and Exercise Medicine with extensive clinical experience of treating recreational exercisers and high-performance athletes as well as individuals with non-exercise related joint, bone and soft tissue disorders.  He is experienced in the practice of diagnostic ultrasound and image guided injection procedures.

Dr Collins qualified in Medicine with distinction from the University of London in 1998 and after initially training in General Practice went on to be awarded the Macleod Medal for excellence in Sports Medicine by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Fellowship of the Faculties of Sport & Exercise Medicine in both the UK and Ireland.  He has occupied the Chair of Education for the British Association of Sport & Exercise Medicine and currently lectures for the University of Leeds.

He works with British Olympic and Paralympic teams in Gymnastics, Archery, Judo, Boccia, Rugby and Athletics through the English Institute of Sport alongside treating patients within the Defence Rehabilitation Service in Aylesbury and the NHS MSK service in Bedfordshire.

Sport & Exercise Medicine focuses on the non-surgical management of injuries, musculoskeletal disorders and exercise related illnesses and prioritises the holistic assessment in order to ensure treatment is tailored to each person’s specific needs.  Over 20 years working in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire Dr Collins has established excellent working relationships with local radiologists, surgeons, medical specialists and physiotherapists and is able to coordinate the multi-disciplinary team to promote the highest standards of care.

He is highly proficient in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound which he uses within the clinical assessment to facilitate a rapid diagnosis, as well as to provide guided injections and regularly teaches students in this discipline.
