Personal Profile

Mr Hartley is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Harbour Hospital with a specialist interest in shoulder and elbow surgery.

He graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals Medical School, London, in 1997. He undertook basic surgical training in the South West of England prior to higher surgical specialist training in orthopaedic surgery on the Mid Trent training programme based in Nottingham. Whilst in Nottingham he received training in the renowned Shoulder and Elbow unit at Nottingham City Hospital, with further upper limb training in Derby and Mansfield Hospitals.

On completion of specialist training Mr Hartley carried out further sub speciality training in Perth, Western Australia, under one of Australia’s foremost upper limb surgeons. He also worked as a locum consultant there.

In 2000 Mr Hartley was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, where he has worked since, also caring for trauma patients at Poole General Hospital.

He has developed his interest in shoulder and elbow surgery, performing the full range of open and arthroscopic procedures. He treats patients with severe arthritic conditions with conventional anatomy & reverse geometry total shoulder replacement and younger patients with sports related injuries. He manages conditions of impingement and rotator cuff tears and treats shoulder instability and dislocations.

Mr Hartley is committed to training of trainee surgeons including shoulder fellows and continues to receive visiting surgeons as well as visit other centres of excellence.
