Richard is a consultant urologist and urological cancer lead at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. He also runs, with his colleagues, a service at Macclesfield General Hospital, Tameside Hospital and Buxton Cottage Hospital.
Richard trained in the North-West and Australia and has developed skills in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical procedures in prostatic and kidney disease and has recently, with a colleague (Neil Oakley), performed the first series of laparoscopic cystectomies (removal of the bladder) in Manchester. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is involved on their teaching committee for the introduction of training aids for the teaching of complex urological operations to the next generation of surgeons.
