Mr Pickard is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon who specialises in the management of back pain and neck pain, as well as nerve pain related to these conditions.
Richard believes in minimal intervention to treat spinal conditions, where appropriate. He works closely with physiotherapists, pain specialists and other health professionals to optimise patients’ treatment prior to undertaking any surgical procedures. Time is taken to explain things clearly enabling patients to make informed decisions.
His practice encompasses all aspects of spinal surgery.
He completed his training as a spinal surgeon at the world leading spinal centre in Oxford, undertaking a prestigious 1 year advanced spinal fellowship giving comprehensive training in all aspects of cutting edge spinal surgery. This was followed by a further year as a Spinal Consultant in Oxford.
Mr Pickard is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Frimley Health Foundation Trust and the regional lead of the Thames Valley Spine Network.
He is a member of the British-Association-of-Spinal-Surgeons and the Spine-Society-of-Europe.
He teaches on spinal training programs throughout the South and is referred patients from across the country for spinal opinions.
Mr Pickard provided trauma and spinal surgical support to the British Forces holding the rank of Surgeon Commander. He was 1 of 2 British Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeons and the sole spinal surgeon deployed to camp Bastion Afghanistan.
Richard is married to Alison a GP and has 3 young children and 2 springer spaniels. He enjoys spending time with his young family as well as sailing, cycling, skiing and cooking.
